From Children’s Homes to Community Builders: Seven Youth Begin Training at G-BIACK
16 September 2025
This September marks a new beginning for seven young adults from homes supported by Lift the Children. With hope in their hearts and determination in their steps, they have joined the Grow Biointensive Agriculture Centre of Kenya (G-BIACK) for an 18-month training programme that promises to transform their futures.
A Step Toward Independence
For years, these young people have grown up in children’s homes under the care and support of Lift the Children. Now, as they transition into adulthood, they face the exciting but sometimes daunting task of preparing for independent living.
Lift the Children believes that every child’s journey should not end at the gates of a children’s home. True care means preparing them to step confidently into the community, equipped with skills, values, and opportunities. Sponsoring these seven youth into G-BIACK’s programme is part of that commitment.
Why G-BIACK?
At G-BIACK, the young adults are not just learning how to farm—they are learning how to live responsibly, sustainably, and independently. Over the next 18 months, they will gain skills in:
🌱 Sustainable farming – biointensive agriculture, soil care, composting, and water harvesting.
🐝 Livelihood opportunities – small livestock keeping, beekeeping, and value addition.
🤝 Life skills – teamwork, leadership, and responsibility.
🌍 Community service – using their knowledge to support food security and inspire others.
The programme goes beyond training; it nurtures resilience, builds confidence, and instills the discipline needed to thrive as adults.
Nurturing Responsible Young Adults
Transitioning from a children’s home into the community can be challenging without guidance or preparation. That’s why Lift the Children invests in programmes like this—to ensure that young people are not only cared for during their childhood but also supported as they step into adulthood.
By empowering these seven youth with practical knowledge and life skills, we are giving them more than education—we are giving them the tools to become responsible, empowered, and independent members of society.
Planting Seeds of Change
Each of these young people carries a dream: to stand on their own feet, to provide for themselves and their future families, and to give back to the communities that raised them.
At Lift the Children, we see them as seeds of change. With the training, mentorship, and opportunities they are receiving at G-BIACK, we believe they will grow into strong, resilient trees—providing shade, nourishment, and hope for many others.
Because when one child is lifted, a whole community is lifted too.
