Emmanuel Hope Centre was started by a single mother, Jane. It was the outcome of a bitter inner conflict between choosing to stand by and watch or doing something. Jane was initially a hawker. She sold her wares in the streets of Nairobi and it was there that she came in contact with street children. Her long engagement and interaction with the street children led her to initiate this project.
Emmanuel Hope Centre receives orphaned, vulnerable and destitute children from the Department of Children, police, local authorities, and children who have been bitten with life on the streets. The centre has transformed hundreds of children and continue to do so despite the difficulties they face.
Emmanuel Hope Centre team is actively involved in farming activities growing vegetables and keeping a few chicken and pigs. Lift the Children support has helped sustain school attendance and nutrition, as well as improve farming activities to bring about self-reliance.
