Background Information
The Founder, Bishop Josiah Okoth Mwima, is an ex-convict. He feels that he was saved while in prison and to-date serves the Lord. After being released from prison, he returned home to find his children very desperate and realized that the children of inmates suffer greatly. He decided to start a children's home to restore love and care for such children and the orphaned. With time, Bishop Josiah also involved HIV-positive children. He believes in bringing up children and making them future leaders. He believes that despite the difficult circumstances the children face, there is hope for the future.
At the moment Compassionate Neighbours is located on a built plot where there are rooms for the children and the director's two bed-roomed house. The home gets funds from well-wishers and friends. Former Tuskys and Naivas Supermarkets have played a major role in supporting the home by providing foodstuffs and firewood. The home provides education for the children. It also takes care of HIV positive children by ensuring they get the necessary medical attention through the help of the Lea Toto Program.
