International Day of the African Child 2023
16 June 2023
Day Of The African Child Theme: The Rights of the Child in the Digital Environment
This day is celebrated annually on June 16th to commemorate the 1976 Soweto uprisings in South Africa. On this day, African children are honored, their rights are recognized, and their welfare is promoted. It is also aimed at raising awareness about African children’s challenges and the continent as a whole.
The day encourages African governments and stakeholders to guarantee that African children’s rights are respected. It also ensures that they have access to quality education, healthcare, and other essential services. Furthermore, it serves as a reminder to take action and create a better future for African children by taking action now. This is particularly important to ensure that African children can reach their full potential and contribute to the development of their countries and the continent.
African governments, civil society, and other stakeholders must work together to ensure children’s rights are respected and protected. This includes providing access to quality education, healthcare, and social protection. It also requires creating an enabling environment for them to exercise their rights without discrimination and violence.
African children should be at the center of development. They should have a voice in decisions that affect them. All stakeholders must ensure that their voices are heard and perspectives are taken into account. Children should be empowered to lead in an equitable and just society. They need the skills and opportunities to realize their potential and live with dignity. They should be protected from exploitation, abuse, and all forms of violence. Children’s rights should be respected, protected, and fulfilled.
