Background Information
The home supports 25 children on a daily basis. Sometimes the number goes up to 30 due to temporary rescue missions associated with children cases at Soweto police station. The home also support approximately 50 children mostly through a feeding program and outreach where mothers, children, or guardians come for food at the home.
Soweto area slums is a highly populated informal settlement neighbourhood that consists of no income or low income population composed of casual laborers who work in the neighbouring industrial area, located in the eastlands of Nairobi. Huge traffic of people is witnessed in the evenings when people arrive back to their homes from the industrial areas. The houses in the slums basically consist of iron sheet structures. With the recent construction of the outer road, the area has witnessed an influx of stone made houses where builders bought cheap leftover construction materials.
