Kikambala Children's Home was initially intended to be an outreach program. However, as a result of the situation of many children having no known kin, the need for residential care arose. Kikambala is a registered as a Charitable Children's Institution (CCI) and as the Community-Based Organisation (CBO), namely the Kikambala Child Protection Program. A major purpose of the organization is to improve the standard of living for destitute children by providing them with social protection and talent nurturing. This is done while deepening moral values and making their rights and desires known to the community as a whole.

Kikambala believes that every child deserves the chance to live in a safe and secure environment and have their basic needs of meals, clothing, and medical care met. Kikambala also provides enrichment opportunities so that children can develop their talents and passions.
