Hope Found Again: Two Children Reunited with Their Families After Years Apart
11 June 2026
For families of missing children, hope can sometimes feel impossible. Yet at Lift the Children, we have witnessed firsthand that even after years of separation, reunification is possible.
Recently, through the dedication of Lift the Children’s social work team and our partner care institutions, two children who had been separated from their families were successfully reunited with their loved ones.
Four Years of Searching, Never Giving Up
One of the most remarkable reunifications involved a young girl who had been separated from her family for four years.
When she first entered care, she was unable to provide detailed information about where she came from. The only clues she could consistently share were her mother’s name, the school she had attended, and the type of work her mother used to do.
For four long years, her family searched tirelessly. They visited hospitals. They checked morgues. They followed every lead they could find. Eventually, after years without answers, they began to fear they might never see their daughter again.
Through Lift the Children family tracing training while using the limited information available, they carefully pieced together clues, contacted schools, engaged local leaders, and followed numerous leads across counties. After extensive tracing efforts, the family was finally located.
The moment of reunification was emotional beyond words. Tears flowed freely as parents embraced the daughter they feared they had lost forever. Family members celebrated a miracle they had almost stopped believing would happen.
The story touched many hearts across Kenya and was featured on a national television station, inspiring countless viewers and highlighting the importance of child tracing and family reunification efforts.
A Second Family Restored
In another case, a child who had been separated from family for more than one year was also successfully reunited through coordinated tracing efforts.
What began as a case with very limited information gradually turned into a story of hope as social workers worked with community members, local authorities, schools, and family networks to identify and locate relatives.
After months of searching and verification, the child was safely reunited with family members who had never stopped hoping for their return.
Why Family Tracing Matters
These two stories remind us that every child deserves to grow up in a loving family environment whenever it is safe and possible.
Family tracing and reunification are not simple processes. They require patience, professional case management, verification, counselling, community collaboration, and continuous follow-up to ensure children remain safe and supported after reunification.
At Lift the Children, we remain committed to ensuring that children do not lose their identity, their family connections, or their sense of belonging.
These reunifications are more than success stories. They are reminders that hope is stronger than separation, that families should never stop searching, and that every effort made on behalf of a child matters.
For two children and their families, the waiting is finally over. They are home.
And that is why we continue this work.
