Touching Lives Across Kenya: LTC Field Visits in Mombasa and Western Regions
At Lift the Children, we believe that to truly understand the needs of a child, you must walk their journey. That’s why, each year, our team travels across Kenya to assess and support children’s homes outside of Nairobi. This June, our annual visits took us to both Mombasa and the Western region.
In Mombasa, our Nairobi-based team partnered with regional lead Grace Wanjiku to conduct comprehensive assessments in all six LTC-supported homes along the coast. These visits were more than check-ins—they were opportunities to uplift and equip caregivers. We facilitated hands-on training sessions on proper documentation and organized filing systems, helping the teams align with the national care reform agenda.
A highlight of the Mombasa visit was a trauma support training led by LTC’s in-house counselor, Elizabeth. The session offered caregivers deep insights into how to identify and support children experiencing trauma and grief. Her presence reminded everyone that healing is possible—and it starts with a listening heart.
Simultaneously, in Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu Counties, another LTC team visited three homes: St. Miriam, Bethel Kinship, and Geta Little Eagle. Here, we witnessed the power of compassion in action. Caregivers shared stories of transformation, children proudly displayed their academic achievements, and the energy of hope could be felt in every corner.
These field visits are at the heart of what we do—ensuring not just compliance or oversight, but connection. They affirm our belief that with the right tools, training, and care, every home can become a haven for growth and dignity.
