From Children’s Homes to Junior Developers: Empowering Youth Through Web Development Training
6 March 2026

Equipping Young People from Children’s Homes with Digital Skills
At Lift the Children, our mission goes beyond supporting children in care. We are committed to ensuring that young people grow up with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to build independent and meaningful lives.
For over 16 years, Lift the Children has supported children living in homes across Kenya through monthly assistance, mentorship, and development programs. Many of these children have grown up with the organization walking alongside them through their educational and personal journeys.
Today, we are proud to celebrate an important milestone — the LCT Cohort 1 Website Design and Development Training, a program that has empowered young people from children’s homes supported by Lift the Children with valuable digital and web development skills.
A Strategic Partnership with Computer Pride Institution
The training program was implemented in partnership with Computer Pride Institution, a professional training institute specializing in technology and digital skills.
Through this collaboration, participants received hands-on training, mentorship, and practical experience in modern web design and full-stack web development.
This partnership ensured that the young people received industry-relevant skills that can help them access opportunities in the rapidly growing digital economy.
Programming Languages and Technologies Learned

During the training, participants gained foundational and practical skills in both front-end and back-end web development.
The technologies covered in the program included:
-
HTML – Structuring and building the foundation of web pages
-
Bootstrap – Creating responsive and mobile-friendly website designs
-
JavaScript – Adding interactive functionality to websites
-
PHP – Developing server-side applications
-
jQuery – Enhancing JavaScript features and simplifying coding processes
-
SQL & MySQL – Managing and organizing website databases
-
Git and GitHub – Version control and collaborative development
These technologies form the backbone of modern web development and provide participants with the essential skills needed to begin working as Junior Stack Developers.
Developing Websites for Children’s Homes
One of the most impactful aspects of the program was its practical application.
Instead of only learning theory, participants were given the opportunity to develop real websites for children’s homes supported by Lift the Children.
These websites will help the homes to:
-
Improve their online visibility
-
Share their mission and impact
-
Connect with supporters and partners
-
Increase transparency and communication
By contributing to the homes that once supported them, participants experienced the powerful impact of giving back to their community.
From Care to Career: Supporting Independent Futures
The LCT Cohort 1 program represents an important step in supporting young people transitioning from care into independence.
Many of the participants grew up in children’s homes supported by Lift the Children. Through this program, they have now acquired practical technology and web development skills that can open doors to employment, freelance opportunities, and entrepreneurship in the digital space.
Today, these young people proudly graduate as Junior Stack Developers, equipped with the knowledge and confidence to begin building their careers in technology.

Looking Ahead
At Lift the Children, we believe that empowering young people with education, skills, and opportunities creates long-term transformation.
The LCT Cohort 1 training demonstrates the power of investing in youth and equipping them with tools that allow them to contribute meaningfully to society.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Computer Pride Institution for their partnership and dedication in training and mentoring the participants.
Most importantly, we congratulate the LCT Cohort 1 graduates for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to building brighter futures.
Your journey is just beginning and we are proud to walk alongside you.
